Every year on 9th September, people across the world come together to mark Falsely Accused Day – a powerful international event that raises awareness of the devastating impact of false allegations and honours those who have suffered in silence for far too long.
This year in England and Wales, the event will take place outside the Royal Courts of Justice in London. I, Michael Thompson, Founder of the Falsely Accused Network, will be delivering a speech on the day – not just as someone who supports others through this journey, but as someone who has lived it.
For the falsely accused, this day is personal. It’s a stand against shame, stigma, and injustice.

A Global Movement with a Growing Voice
Falsely Accused Day has grown from a small, courageous campaign into a global movement. Across the UK, the US, Australia, Ireland and beyond, falsely accused people and their supporters come together every year to be seen, heard, and believed.
The event is now coordinated internationally via the official website:
On that site, you can find events taking place around the world, read powerful stories, and learn how to get involved. If you’ve been falsely accused or support someone who has, it’s well worth a visit.
Why This Day Matters So Much
Falsely Accused Day isn’t just a protest – it’s a lifeline.
If you’ve been falsely accused, please come. Don’t isolate yourself. Don’t shrink. Show up – for yourself, and for others who understand exactly what you’ve been through.
This day is about reclaiming dignity. It’s about breaking the silence. It’s about saying: “I’m still here.”
Standing shoulder to shoulder with others who’ve been through the same storm is a powerful, healing experience. You’ll meet people who get it – people who’ve lived the same horror and chosen to rise above it.
A Tribute to Lyn – The Heart of the Movement
At the centre of International Falsely Accused Day is a truly remarkable woman: Lyn.
Lyn was falsely accused herself. And like me, she turned her pain into purpose. Through tireless effort, she has built a platform that spans continents, bringing together survivors, families, campaigners, and professionals from all walks of life.
She is warm, generous, and driven by a pure heart. Lyn doesn’t do this for recognition – she does it because she knows how deeply people are hurting and how much change is needed. The Falsely Accused Network is proud to support her and the incredible work she does.
A Poem That Speaks For Us All
Lyn recently shared a poem that captures the spirit of this day better than anything else I’ve read. It’s raw, real, and uplifting – and it moved me to tears. I want to share it here, because I believe every genuinely falsely accused person will feel this in their bones:
---
Like a Phoenix
By Lyn
Like a phoenix, I rose from the ashes.
A broken person who wanted to die.
I'm still me, but I've had to make changes.
Hear my voice, but no longer my cry.
Just like that phoenix, I am renewed.
The liars are there, but I no longer fear.
They are just people, not God.
I won't give them a thought.
You can do this like me.
I'm still here.
Rise up, my friends, just like a phoenix.
You're much stronger than you know.
Rise up and stand proud.
You are innocent.
The false accusers are lower than the low.
---
This is what Falsely Accused Day is about: resilience. Renewal. Refusing to give up.
